On April 3, 2024, our team took part in the meeting organized by the European Business Association with representatives of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, in particular, with its Acting Director Andrii Pashchuk.
During the meeting, strategies for combating the shadow market and the cooperation of customs and ESB authorities in this regard, as well as the issue of criminal prosecution for violation of TM rights and criminal prosecution in the presence of tax disputes were discussed.
Managing Partner Kostyantyn Gamkrelidze and Senior Partner Igor Derevianko had the opportunity to ask important questions which concern Ukrainian and foreign businesses in Ukraine, in particular:
Considering that ESB specialists are guided by Article 227 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in their work, Andriy Pashchuk assured that all necessary measures will be taken to combat the circulation of illegal goods and promised to include this issue in the plan of future measures based on the results of this meeting.
Unfortunately, the representatives of the Bureau were not able to provide a reasoned answer to this question.
And although the representatives of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine pointed to the lack of personnel, resources and the workload of the judicial system, we are not saddened by this meeting but glad that in such a difficult time for our country the national authorities are interested in continuation of the interaction with Ukrainian businesses.
